"Serving
Your Family"
" Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong
to the family of believers."
- Galatians
6:10 (NIV)
Better late than never,
right? Last week, I received so many encouraging emails - seems everyone
understands how busy we can all get at times. Obviously, this occurred
again over the weekend - again. Keep reading. You will understand why.
I got a call early last
Thursday morning just as I was starting a 36 hour shift at work; the 12
year old child of one of our
church members had
been killed in a MVA. The caller, a member of our
motorcycle
ministry and a best friend of the boy's father, was out of town and
asked if I could go over and comfort the family of the young child. I
couldn't get off shift. But, I told him that I would make sure I made some
notifications to get people there to surround them.
To make a long story
fairly short, within an hour there were several pastors and members of the
church at the family's home. And, they kept coming. And, they stayed all
day and night. And, they brought food, drinks, towels, shoulders to cry on
and listening ears.
Sunday (when I normally
write this), Cindy and I went to church. Afterwards, we had a scheduled
ride with the
motorcycle ministry that we lead. As we were about to leave on our
scheduled ride, the same man called me that had called me the Thursday
prior - he needed someone to house-sit while all the family went to the
viewing at the funeral home. A friend of ours, who was sitting there eating
lunch with us after church, willingly volunteered. Did she know the family?
No. But, you see, she IS family.
We rode with the group
to a stop about 45 minutes away. As we sat, cooling off, Cindy said to me,
"You know, we should go over there." I announced it to the group of 12
riders on 9 bikes. All but three of the bikes went directly to the home of
the family who was mourning the loss of their middle child (7 kids). And,
we didn't just sit in the house. We cleaned. We cooked. We fixed broken
cabinet doors. In other words, we did things that family does for family.
You and I are family -
we are related in CHRIST. We are brothers and sisters who should be serving
one another as we serve HIM...
...On HIS Shift,

If you don't own a bike, you
may join the ministry as a "passenger only" member!
You will also be asked to
read and sign the ROTE "Membership Standards" which states:
I understand that Riders On The Edge is
a ministry of - and represents - WoodsEdge Community Church and
Fellowship Riders International and should reflect our Christian values
in all of its activities.
The harvest if
plenty, but the laborers are few. When we are called to evangelize, we
put ourselves at risk. We will sometimes be a minority of saved amongst
a majority of the unsaved. There is hedge of protection for all
evangelists. We will stay within the boundaries of that hedge. The word
of God will keep us within those boundaries. Members of ROTE will not
conform to sin or compromise our conduct. God has called us to
evangelize to all who are unsaved. As bikers, our motorcycles can be
used as a platform that will draw the attention of other bikers. We
must take full advantage of this platform to reach out to the unsaved
biker. All members of ROTE are accountable to the authority (Pastor) of
WoodsEdge Community Church. Our actions should never disrespect or
disregard the leaders and members of that church or this ministry. We
are servants. The Church is the authority. –
